The federal government has decided to replace Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, with senior PML-N leader Nehal Hashmi set to take over the province’s top constitutional office, officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has forwarded the summary for the governor’s removal to the Presidency, which received the document earlier today.
Hashmi is expected to take the oath as the new governor on Monday or Tuesday, subject to the President’s approval.
The move follows weeks of political consultations in Islamabad.
Sources said Hashmi’s nomination comes under a broader power-sharing understanding between coalition partners, under which two provincial governorships will be allotted to the Pakistan Peoples Party and two to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
Kamran Tessori, appointed in 2022, has been asked to step down as part of the transition.
