K-Electric steps up recovery drive with community camps across Karachi

K-Electric has intensified its push to improve recoveries, holding four customer facilitation camps in neighbourhoods facing high electricity theft and persistent bill defaults.

The camps were set up at Perfume Chowk in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, P&T Colony in Gizri, Surjani and Machar Colony in Lyari.

KE teams assisted residents with bill payments, instalment plans, new connections, and meter- or billing-related issues.

CEO Moonis Alvi visited the camps at P&T Colony and Perfume Chowk, where he met residents and urged them to support the company’s recovery efforts.

“Electricity rates are set by the federal government. While we cannot change the tariff, we can ease the payment process,” he said.

“Where recoveries are low and dues remain high, we arrange these camps to help customers. Improved payments lead to better area profiles, which enables uninterrupted supply.”

He emphasised that the power system requires “100% of customers to pay 100% of their bills on time” to operate reliably.

Residents were also briefed on safe internal wiring and the hazards of illegal connections, which KE says remain a major cause of losses in several localities.

According to the utility, hundreds of customers committed to payments, and the camps collectively recovered Rs26 million in a single day. KE said reducing theft and ensuring timely billing remain key to lowering load-shedding and improving supply reliability across the city.
