A senior Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight purser has gone missing in Canada, the latest in a series of incidents involving crew members failing to return from foreign assignments, airline sources said on Friday.
According to officials, Asif Najam, a senior flight purser, operated a Lahore-Toronto flight on November 16 and was due to return to Lahore on November 19. However, he did not report for duty on the scheduled return flight.
Sources said Najam disappeared from his Toronto hotel sometime between November 16 and 19. The airline has begun internal procedures and informed relevant authorities.
Several PIA employees have previously gone missing abroad, a trend that has intensified as uncertainty surrounding the airline’s proposed privatisation continues to unsettle staff.
PIA has not issued an official statement on the latest disappearance.
