Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider has stated that no action will be taken on canal-related issues until a consensus is reached among all stakeholders.
Speaking on Aaj News’ programme “News Insight with Amir Zia”, he said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed displeasure over Punjab-level committees failing to hold meetings.
Governor Haider emphasised that any decision on canal management must be made through consultation. He noted that previous commitments had been made on the matter, and he remains hopeful that positive outcomes will emerge.
Addressing the broader political landscape, Haider remarked, “Elections are not the solution; politicians are highly incompetent.”
He stressed that provincial misunderstandings would only grow if hasty decisions were made and suggested that local body elections on a party basis could be a better gauge of political performance.
On urban development, he urged the Punjab government to remove encroachments but not at the expense of the poor.
He warned that evicting street vendors without providing alternatives would be a grave injustice.Meanwhile, during the programme, Senator Jan Muhammad Buledi of the National Party addressed the recent surge in violent incidents near Bolan Pass in Balochistan.
He emphasised the need for a systematic approach to resolving the crisis, criticising the lack of substantial action.
“The situation demands serious measures,” Buledi stated, adding that without political dialogue and confidence-building, lasting peace would remain elusive.
He also pointed out that President Asif Ali Zardari’s speech failed to address the security situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
