Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has dismissed two employees for smuggling mobile phones, the airline confirmed in a statement.
The airline spokesperson stated that an internal investigation revealed the employees’ involvement in the illegal activity, leading to their termination in accordance with PIA regulations.
Customs officials intercepted 24 mobile phones from two air hostesses acting on a tip-off. Following questioning, the air hostesses led authorities to three male colleagues at a hotel, resulting in the seizure of an additional 54 phones.
Customs sources reported that all five PIA employees involved in the smuggling operation are currently in custody, pending further investigation.
PIA’s spokesperson emphasized the airline’s zero-tolerance policy towards violations of its internal regulations and Pakistani law.
