PTI Chairman Gohar, KP CM Gandapur hold ‘one-on-one’ meeting with COAS Munir

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Gohar Ali Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur have had a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir in the recent past, both the party leaders said on Thursday amid media reports.

“Our meeting with Army Chief General Munir was held privately where we presented all PTI matters and demands,” PTI Chairman Gohar told reporters outside the Adiala Jail.

He claimed that they discussed all issues concerning the party in front of the army chief.

Discussions included all matters related to national stability, Gohar said and claimed that they received a “positive response” from the other side. He described “direct negotiations” with the establishment as a “positive development” and hoped that the situation would improve.

Earlier in the day, KP CM Gandapur also confirmed the meeting between the army chief and Gohar. He mentioned that his discussions with the army chief were related to security and claimed that the army chief had also met with the entire party, including the chairman.

When asked, Gandapur said: “One-on-one meeting means that you cannot share the details of the meeting.” He chuckled after the response.

He clarified that the army chief cannot guarantee jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s release and the party was not seeking such relief from anyone. “We will hopefully seek justice from courts. There are FIRs registered against us.”

Reports said PTI founder Imran Khan also confirmed the development. “The meeting with the army chief is a positive development. If any dialogue has started, it is encouraging and good for Pakistan. We were hoping for negotiations that would focus on the stability of Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying in a statement.

The army chief was in Peshawar on Monday where the army men briefed him on the security situation and the counter-terrorism operations targeting the banned Fitna Al Khawarij. He vowed that terrorism had no place in the country and lauded the successful dismantling of the operational capabilities of terrorist outfits active in the country.

COAS Munir also held meetings with politicians from various parties of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations statement said.

“The participants resolved consensus on the need for one political voice and public support against the scourge of terrorism. The political representatives showed vivid clarity on unflinching support of the armed forces and LEAs in nation’s fight against terror and agreed on the need for a unified front beyond political colours against the extremist philosophy of terrorist groups,” the ISPR said.
