PCB gives update on Saim Ayub’s injury

Pakistan’s emerging star Saim Ayub had to be helped off the field in the second Test match against South Africa in Cape Town on Friday after suffering an ankle injury.

“Saim Ayub twisted his right ankle during fielding. He has gone to hospital for further investigation. Updates will be provided in due course,” a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board said.

The injury came on the second ball of the seventh over as Ryan Ricketon pushed a delivery through the slip cordon.

Ayub turned and chased the ball but his ankle twisted causing him to fall.

The team’s medical staff immediately came on the field as Ayub winced in pain. He had to be helped off the field and could not walk on his own power.

South Africa won the toss and chose to bat against Pakistan in the second Test in Capetown. The hosts lead the series 1-0.
