Mercy petitions filed by 19 people convicted of involvement in the May 9 protests have been accepted, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations.
According to an ISPR statement issued on Thursday, the appeals were accepted on ‘humanitarian’ grounds.
“They all shall be released after completion of procedural formalities,” ISPR said.
The names of those whose applications were accepted include:
ISPR added that 20 people were released on humanitarian grounds in April 2024. The statement also added that the rest of convicts can also appeal their decision.
“The remission of punishments is a testament to the strength of the due process and fairness, which ensures that justice is served while also taking into account the principles of compassion and mercy,” ISPR said.
