No charges yet against journalist Cecilia Sala, says deputy Iranian PM Tajani

Iran’s Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani has confirmed that no formal charges have been filed against journalist Cecilia Sala, who has been detained in Iran since December 19.

During a meeting with the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Italy’s ambassador to Tehran was informed that the charges are still pending.

Tajani emphasized that the Italian government is actively working to secure Sala’s release, noting a willingness for dialogue regarding her situation.

He stated, “The times are what they are,” but expressed optimism about her treatment and the ongoing efforts to bring her home as soon as possible.

Sala, a journalist for Il Foglio and Chora Media, was arrested in connection with the detention of an Iranian wanted in the United States for alleged arms sales to terrorists.
