Passenger plane crashes in Kazakhstan with 105 on board

A passenger plane crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan on Wednesday, with initial reports suggesting that there were survivors, according to the Central Asian country’s Emergencies Ministry.

Emergency services are currently working to extinguish a fire at the crash site.

Russian news agencies reported that the aircraft, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, was en route from Baku to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya but had been rerouted due to fog in Grozny.

Kazakh media indicated that there were 105 passengers and five crew members on board at the time of the incident.

There has been no immediate comment from Azerbaijan Airlines regarding the crash.

“Upon arrival, the aircraft was found on fire, and rescue teams began extinguishing the blaze. Details about casualties are still being confirmed, but initial reports suggest there are survivors,” the ministry said.
