Khan rejects govt’s demand for withdrawing civil disobedience call

Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan has rejected the government’s demand for withdrawing the call for civil disobedience movement, sources said on Tuesday, as he instructed his party to continue negotiations with the ruling coalition.

The PTI founder has maintained that he would not withdraw the civil disobedience movement call until the government demonstrates “genuine commitment” to negotiations.

He demanded the judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26, expressing concern that the government may delay discussions. Khan emphasised the need for negotiations to progress “swiftly and meaningfully.”

Earlier in the day, former first lady Bushra Bibi and several key PTI leaders met him in the Adiala Jail.

Sources added that Khan has appointed Sunni Ittehad Council leader Sahibzada Hamid Raza as the spokesperson for the negotiation committee. PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry also confirmed this to the media.

“It is essential for the negotiation committee to meet with Khan,” PTI Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram said and added that the party desires the government to ease restrictions on the PTI founder so that leaders can have a “meaningful discussion” with their leader.
