Five people, including a woman, were found unconscious in a home in Lasi Para near the Korangi, W-22 stop in Karachi. They were rushed to the hospital, where one person died.
Police identified the deceased as 60-year-old Shaheen, the father of Farooq, one of the other unconscious individuals. The other victims include Farooq’s wife, 30-year-old Rehana Farooq; their one-and-a-half-year-old son, Hanzala; and Farooq’s two brothers, Umair and Numan.
Initial reports suggest the victims may have been poisoned or suffered from smoke inhalation overnight. Police say the condition of two of the victims remains critical. They are awaiting toxicology reports to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Police and medical authorities are investigating various possibilities.
Dr. Irfan Siddiqui, in charge of the Jinnah Hospital’s emergency department, told the media that four patients were brought to the hospital around 12:30 AM. One male patient had already died upon arrival.
Dr Siddiqui stated that one patient’s condition remains critical, while two others, a woman and a man, are in stable condition. Blood samples have been sent for testing, and the results are pending.
