The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has distanced itself from former information minister Fawad Chaudhry on the instructions of party founder Imran Khan.
In a statement, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stated that he met with Khan on Saturday at the Adiala Jail, where Khan directed him to publicly disassociate from Chaudhry.
He emphasised that the former information minister “is not authorised to present his opinions as those of PTI.” The party has announced complete detachment from Chaudhry.
Gohar clarified that Chaudhry has no affiliation with PTI and cannot represent the party on media, social media, or television.
PTI leader Shoaib Shaheen, after meeting with the PTI founder at the Adiala Jail, stated in a media interaction that Khan has made it clear that those who abandoned the party have no affiliation with PTI.
Later, an official statement from PTI’s X account mentioned that “our lawyers met with the PTI founder, Imran Khan, at Adiala Jail today [Saturday], where discussions took place regarding the current political situation, party matters, and future strategies.”
Following the meeting, Khan issued special directives through lawyers concerning party activities and future plans, instructing a “public disassociation from Fawad Chaudhry, who announced his separation from the party.”
In accordance with instructions, the PTI has declared complete detachment from Chaudhry, emphasising that he has no connection to the party and is not authorised to represent PTI in media, social media, or television talk shows, nor to present his opinions as those of PTI.
Fawad Chaudhry had distanced himself from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after the events of May 9. But he later attempted to return to the party and has been linking himself to PTI through television appearances and social media.
He mentioned that Khan and PTI should focus on issues rather than individuals.
In response to the announcement of disassociation, Chaudhry posted on X, stating, “A former IB informer, who recently joined PTI as an agent, said that Imran Khan has claimed he has no connection with me. I received a message from Imran Khan advising me not to engage with people like him or respond to them. These individuals are keeping Imran Khan in jail while making a mockery of the military’s sacrifices and extending his imprisonment.”
Chaudhry reaffirmed his support for Khan, stating, “Our sympathies are with him and will remain so. We must thwart the conspiracies aimed at breaking this country and reduce political divisions; otherwise, these conspirators will destroy the entire country and Imran Khan’s political career for their own gain.”
