Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) continued their impressive Ligue 1 campaign with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Monaco on Wednesday.
However, the match was overshadowed by a serious facial injury sustained by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The win allowed PSG to extend their lead at the top of the league to 10 points, putting them well ahead of second-placed Marseille and third-placed Monaco.
Despite the positive result, Donnarumma was injured when he was struck in the face by the studs of Monaco defender Wilfried Singo.
The Italian goalkeeper required staples for deep lacerations on the right side of his face but bravely continued playing until he was substituted for Matvey Safonov.
Monaco initially took the lead in the first half, with Eliesse Ben Seghir converting a penalty after PSG’s Marquinhos was penalized for handball.
Breel Embolo then scored, putting Monaco ahead and threatening to end PSG’s remarkable 31-game unbeaten away streak in Ligue 1.
