The post-mortem report of Sonia, the elephant that passed away at Karachi’s Safari Park, has revealed the presence of various bacteria in her system.
According to the report, an old abscess on Sonia’s foot was identified as a significant factor contributing to her health issues, leading to a severe bacterial infection that ultimately proved fatal.
The Four Paws organization stated that treatment for the abscess had only recently begun during the transfer of another elephant, Madhubala. They emphasized that Sonia’s death resulted from an unsuitable environment and inadequate care.
Following Sonia’s death, only two elephants remain at the Safari Park: Malka and Madhubala. Immediate antibiotic treatment and blood tests have been recommended for both animals, and a team of experts is set to arrive in Karachi for further examination.
The Four Paws team has instructed KMC officials that proper foot care and suitable nutrition are essential for the health of the elephants.
