Indian tabla maestro, Zakir Hussain has earned both fame and financial success throughout his career.
According to Indian media reports, Zakir Hussain’s net worth was estimated to be around $1 million, or approximately Rs 8.48 crore. For his performances, he charged between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh each.
As a global ambassador for the tabla, Hussain showcased the instrument on some of the most prestigious stages worldwide. Over his six-decade career, he collaborated with numerous Indian and international artists, producing timeless music.
One of his most significant contributions came in 1973, when he teamed up with English guitarist John McLaughlin, violinist L. Shankar, and percussionist T.H. “Vikku” Vinayakram. This collaboration fused Indian classical music with jazz, resulting in a unique style that received worldwide acclaim.
Hussain’s exceptional talent and innovative approach earned him five Grammy Awards during his career, including three at the 66th Grammy Awards earlier this year.

Hussain passed away at the age of 73 in San Francisco, USA, due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic lung condition. His family announced his death on Monday, following a two-week hospitalization during which his health deteriorated, leading to his transfer to the ICU.
