Bomb threat received by India’s Central Bank; investigation underway

Mumbai police are investigating a bomb threat directed at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) after the institution received an alarming email written in Russian.

The warning was sent to the official email address of the newly appointed RBI Governor, Sanjay Malhotra.

Authorities have registered a case against an unidentified individual at the Mata Ramabai Marg police station, and investigations are currently ongoing.

In a related incident, over six schools in Delhi also received bomb threats via email on Friday morning, prompting immediate security measures.

Schools such as Bhatnagar Public School, Cambridge School, and Delhi Public School were among those affected.

The Delhi Fire Brigade and police conducted thorough searches of the premises, confirming that no suspicious items were found.

This year’s surge in bomb threats has been notable, with nearly 1,000 hoax threats received by airlines and airports in India, a significant increase compared to the previous year.

Schools, railway stations, and airports have all been targets of these threats, most of which have turned out to be false alarms.
