The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad has issued notices to several individuals suspected of running a malicious social media campaign aimed at spreading chaos and unrest in Pakistan.
The notices, served to Sibghatullah Wirk, Muhammad Arshad, Atta-ur-Rahman, Azhar Mashwani, Komal Afridi, Uroosa Nadeem Shah, and M Ali Malik, summon them to appear before a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on December 13.
The JIT, formed under Section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 (PECA), is investigating the suspects’ alleged use of social media to incite discord.
The team is working to determine the suspects’ motives and identify any accomplices. Further arrests and charges under relevant laws are anticipated.
The IGP stated that the JIT possesses substantial evidence linking the suspects to a coordinated social media campaign designed to destabilize the country. The investigation is ongoing.
