US intelligence reports suggest that Russia may be preparing to launch another experimental hypersonic ballistic missile, known as the Oreshnik, at Ukraine.
However, US officials do not consider the missile a decisive factor in the ongoing conflict.
A US official stated, “We assess that the Oreshnik is not a game-changer on the battlefield, but rather just another attempt by Russia to terrorize Ukraine, which will fail.”
The official highlighted that Russia has a limited stock of Oreshnik missiles, each equipped with a smaller warhead compared to other missiles typically used in the conflict.
The Oreshnik missile, which was reportedly used in an attack on Dnipro on November 21, is designed to travel at speeds exceeding Mach 5, making it difficult to detect and intercept.
Its advanced maneuverability allows for trajectory changes during flight, further complicating interception efforts.
This missile, capable of reaching speeds over Mach 10, has a range of up to 5,000 kilometers, allowing it to target locations across Europe and parts of the United States.
