Pakistan is currently experiencing a severe cold wave, with icy conditions gripping the nation. The mountainous regions are blanketed in snow, creating a picturesque yet frigid landscape.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that the cold wave is expected to persist until December 15, with most areas experiencing severe cold and dry weather today.

Lakes and waterfalls in Ghizar have frozen over, while popular tourist destinations like Malam Jabba, Kalam, Kaghan, and Shogran are covered in a thick layer of snow.

In Karachi, cold winds have intensified the chill, causing temperatures to drop to 12 degrees Celsius early in the morning, with forecasts indicating a potential dip into single digits.

Recent temperature readings reveal that Leh recorded a chilling minus 13 degrees, while Skardu and Gupis saw minus 7 degrees. Kalam and Qalat experienced temperatures of minus 6 degrees, and Dir and Malam Jabba reported minus 4 degrees.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and adjacent hilly areas, there are expectations of light rain and additional snowfall in some regions.

Additionally, light fog is anticipated during the morning hours in the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southern Punjab, and upper Sindh.

The Chief Meteorologist has indicated that a rain system is expected to form in early January; however, it is projected to bring below-average rainfall.
