Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati denied on Thursday rumours of becoming the provincial chief minister as reports say the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is mulling reshuffle in the party and the province.
“Reports regarding my potential elevation to the position of chief minister are based on editorial disinformation,” he told Aaj News.
Swati added that the party has entrusted the position of speaker to an “ordinary worker, which he considers sufficient recognition.”
His comments come amidst speculation about changes in the provincial leadership, clarifying that he remains focused on his current role and responsibilities within the assembly.
According to reports, former prime minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi warned KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur of losing his seat if he failed to deliver in the Islamabad march.
Thousands of PTI supporters marched on November 24 from different cities to Islamabad for Khan’s “final call” to “ensure the release of party members and restoration of democracy.”
They managed to reach the federal capital despite roadblocks and disruptions to the internet and cellular services.
At least six people, including a police officer and three Rangers officials, lost their lives during three days of protests, as reported by officials and hospital sources.
It was the third time that time that the party called off its protest after reaching its desired destination. According to reports, the party’s top leadership had expressed concerns over the lack of participation from supporters in Punjab during the meetings for the Islamabad march.
