Former cricketer and umpire Nazir Jr passes away

Former Pakistan Test cricketer and umpire Nazir Junior has passed away in Lahore. His family confirmed his death, stating that he had been seriously ill for several days and was hospitalized yesterday after his condition worsened.

According to the family, Nazir Junior sustained injuries in a traffic accident five years ago, which led to ongoing health complications that prevented him from living a normal life.

His son, Noman Nazir, recently appealed to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and other high-ranking officials for assistance with his father’s medical treatment, citing a chest infection and fluid buildup in his abdomen. While the family made every effort to provide treatment, they sought government support.

Nazir Junior played 14 Test matches and 4 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Pakistan, taking a total of 37 wickets. He holds the distinction of being the first spinner to take the most wickets (7) in the first innings of a debut Test match for Pakistan.

He also served as an umpire in 15 ODIs and 5 Test matches.
