Rachael “Raygun” Gunn, the Australian breakdancer, has announced her retirement from competitive dancing following a wave of criticism after her performance at the Paris Olympics.
The 37 year old garnered significant attention for her unconventional routine, which included playful kangaroo hops and sprinkler-like moves, but failed to impress the judges, leading to widespread mockery online.
Gunn’s unique style, along with her bright green tracksuit, became the subject of parodies on late-night television and social media, sparking conspiracy theories about her selection for the Olympic team.
Reflecting on the intense scrutiny, she expressed that the backlash was “really upsetting” and has made her reconsider her future in competition.
In an interview with Australian radio station 2DayFM, Gunn stated, “I’m not going to compete any more.
The level of scrutiny just isn’t something I can handle right now.“ Despite stepping back from competition, she emphasized that she will continue to dance recreationally, enjoying the art form in a more personal setting.
Gunn previously addressed the negative reactions to her Olympic performance, highlighting that she had dedicated herself to preparing for the Games and had fun while competing.

Despite the challenges she faced, she remains passionate about dance, stating, “Dancing is so much fun, and it makes you feel good.”
