The federal government has announced significant increases in the salaries and housing allowances for high court judges, as indicated by a recent notification from the Ministry of Law and Justice.
Signed by acting president Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, the notification reveals that the house rent allowance for high court judges has been raised from Rs65,000 to Rs350,000.
Additionally, the superior judicial allowance has seen a substantial increase from Rs342,431 to Rs1,090,000.
The notification also instructs high courts to develop a policy regarding vehicle usage, including fuel, maintenance, drivers, and inter-bench travel.
With these adjustments, sources indicate that the total salary for a high court judge is expected to exceed Rs2 million.
The Islamabad High Court had previously requested the law ministry to revise judges’ housing allowances, citing the significant rise in rental costs in Islamabad over the years.
