IHC orders authorities to retake MDCAT

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University to retake the MD/CAT entrance examination following a successful petition challenging the previous exam.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir issued the order, directing the university to conduct a new MD/CAT test within one month. The court’s decision follows a report by the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) indicating that the questions on the original MD/CAT exam were outside the prescribed syllabus.

This ruling follows a similar order by the Sindh High Court, which previously directed a retake of the MD/CAT exam within four weeks. The IHC’s brief judgment in the case of alleged irregularities in the MD/CAT exam noted concerns about the exam’s integrity.

Justice Salahuddin Panhwar (in a previous related hearing) reportedly questioned the PMC’s lawyer about the influence of powerful individuals, the fees charged per candidate (8,000 rupees), and the apparent compromise of the examination process.

The court expressed concern that the high fee was excessive for less privileged candidates.
