The federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, will meet today at 2pm. The meeting is expected to approve a draft of constitutional amendments.
The draft was previously approved by a special parliamentary committee, prompting the immediate convening of the cabinet meeting. A previous cabinet meeting adjourned without approval.
The National Assembly and Senate will also reconvene today. Friday’s sessions were adjourned before the amendments could be presented.
The Senate session was adjourned until 11:00 AM, while the National Assembly session is scheduled for 3:00 PM. Both houses are expected to consider the constitutional amendments for approval.
A nine-point agenda has been released for the National Assembly session; however, the constitutional amendment is not currently listed.

Sources indicate that if consensus is reached, the amendment will be added as a supplementary agenda item. Sources further suggest a motion will be moved to suspend the usual agenda to expedite the amendment process.
Other items on the National Assembly’s agenda include the presentation of a standing committee report on the Legal Aid and Justice Authority Amendment Bill, which will be presented for approval.
The agenda also includes attention-grabbing notices regarding irregularities in general sales tax collection, and the failure of Pakistan Railways to pay employee salaries on time.
