Security guard released in alleged Gulberg college rape case

A security guard detained in connection with an alleged rape at a private college in Gulberg has been released on bail. Police initially took the guard into custody after a video went viral on social media alleging the rape of a female student.

However, investigations conducted by the police and later ordered by Maryam Nawaz, found no evidence to support the claim.

The initial video, posted by a lawyer, sparked widespread protests at the college and other universities across Punjab.

Following the police investigation and a report finding no evidence of the alleged crime, the government arrested the lawyer who posted the video.

He subsequently posted another video recanting his earlier statement, leading to his further arrest.

Maryam Nawaz, in a press conference, stated that those spreading unrest through false propaganda would be held accountable, hinting at the involvement of certain political elements.

Despite the release of the security guard and the arrest of the lawyer, student protests continue. Students are demanding the establishment of anti-harassment committees in colleges and universities and are pressing for justice.
