Omar Abdullah, leader of the National Conference, has officially taken the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, marking the formation of the region’s first government since the revocation of its special status.

The oath was administered by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, alongside eight other lawmakers from Abdullah’s party.

The Congress party, which had previously allied with Abdullah’s National Conference but performed poorly in recent elections, opted to sit out of the government. Despite being offered a ministerial position, the Congress declined the opportunity.

Prominent leaders from the INDIA alliance attended the swearing-in ceremony held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav from the Samajwadi Party, K. Kanimozhi of the DMK, and Supriya Sule.
