As the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference approaches, set for October 15 and 16, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has accelerated a project aimed at enhancing VIP routes in the city, with a budget now totaling Rs31.3 million, up from an initial allocation of Rs3.7 million.
In a notable departure from standard procedures, the RDA intends to award the contract via a single tender, rather than the typical open e-tendering process. Only one company, Tech Construction, has been selected to bid for the project, with the tender set to be opened on September 29.
RDA officials indicated that the decision to utilize a single tender and increase the budget significantly was driven by urgent time constraints and the importance of the upcoming conference.
They emphasized that broadening the project’s scope is critical to ensure the timely completion of road carpeting and beautification within the old airport limits, facilitating a seamless passage for foreign delegations.
