Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan says awards are a bit subjective

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has said that awards in any category are a bit subjective and praised everyone nominated for awards in different categories of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards but could not win it.

“It’s good to be back. Also, I am extremely grateful for this award. I love awards and I am greedy about awards,” he said after winning the Best Actor award at the IIFA Awards.

“I need to tell you the honest thing that best actor, best director, best stories, all these awards are a bit subjective, so I would like to congratulate all the people who have been nominated.”

Shah Rukh, often named as ‘King Khan’ by his fans, praised Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Vikrant Massey, Vicky Kaushal, and Sunny Deol. He said that all of them deserved it “in one way or the other.”

“But I think I have a little happiness from the audience this year because I worked [again] after a long time,” he declared to crowds at a star-studded show in Abu Dhabi.

Khan did three films in 2023 that broke Bollywood box office records. He got the IIFA Award for Jawan.

He received the award from Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman. Khan thanked them, saying that he had learned filmmaking from them.

Khan’s return to the big screen has been hailed as Bollywood’s biggest success story of the past year. He also starred in the spy thriller Pathaan, where he showcased a rugged action hero persona, a notable shift for the 58-year-old actor, who has spent over three decades portraying romantic leads.

His resurgence in film comes after facing several personal and professional challenges, including the controversial arrest of his son, Aryan Khan, on false drug possession charges, which were ultimately dropped, along with several underperforming films.

Despite his time away from the spotlight, Khan’s popularity remains intact. Often referred to as Bollywood’s “most important cultural export,” the charismatic actor continues to have millions of devoted fans.
