Ana de Armas takes centre stage in the first trailer for Ballerina, the upcoming spinoff from the John Wick universe. In the film, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, de Armas portrays a ballerina who becomes an assassin.
The production of Ballerina has faced delays; filming began in 2022 and was originally set for a June 2024 release. But Lionsgate pushed the release to June 6, 2025, to allow director Chad Stahelski to collaborate with director Len Wiseman on enhancing the film’s action sequences, which were shot this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The John Wick franchise, starring Keanu Reeves since its debut in 2014, is a key asset for Lionsgate, and Reeves is expected to make a cameo in Ballerina. The new film is set between the events of the third and fourth Wick instalments.
The cast of Ballerina includes notable actors such as Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, and Ian McShane.
The franchise’s latest instalment, John Wick: Chapter 4, has achieved remarkable success as the highest-grossing film in the series, earning $440 million worldwide.
There are discussions about a potential John Wick 5. The screenplay for Ballerina is penned by Shay Hatten, who also wrote John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
