Global Punjabi music superstar Diljit Dosanjh surprised fans at his Manchester concert by publicly introducing his family for the first time. This marked a significant departure for the singer, who has previously kept his family life private to protect them from the pressures of fame.
A widely shared video shows Dosanjh bringing his mother, Sukhwinder Kaur, onto the stage. He sang the heartfelt lines, “Dil tenu de ditta main taan soneya, Jaan tere kadma ch rakhi hoyi ae” (“I have given you my heart and I dedicate my life at your feet, beloved”), from his song “Hass Hass” before introducing her to the cheering crowd.
Kaur was visibly moved by the gesture. He also introduced his sister, explaining that his family had joined him for the concert.
Dosanjh’s decision to keep his family out of the spotlight stems from negative experiences early in his career, where criticism directed at him impacted his family. He prioritized their well-being, choosing to shield them from public scrutiny.
The singer recently opened up about his childhood, recalling being sent to live with his maternal uncle in Ludhiana at age 11, without being consulted. This early separation, he explained, affected his connection with his family and others. He expressed deep respect for his parents, particularly his mother, and his father’s unwavering support.
Dosanjh’s highly anticipated “Dil-Luminati Tour” continues with the Indian leg kicking off October 26th in Delhi, visiting major cities across the country before concluding in Guwahati on December 29th.
