PTI protest at Liaquat Bagh: Heavy police presence and service suspensions

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called for a protest today at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi, leading authorities to seal off the area. In anticipation of the gathering, mobile and metro bus services will be suspended, with further disruptions expected across Rawalpindi.

Despite the PTI’s plans, the administration has not granted permission for the event. Following this denial, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram indicated that if the gathering was not permitted, the party would still proceed with the protest at Liaquat Bagh.

In the related move, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the Rawalpindi Division for two days to prohibit all political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, and protests.

This ban will be effective on Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29, affecting the districts of Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal.

A significant police force has also been deployed both inside and outside the venue, preventing individuals from entering for leisurely activities.

Reports suggest that mobile services will also be suspended throughout Rawalpindi today.

Additionally, a public holiday is expected to be announced. Key motorways, including M1 and M2, will be closed, and roads from Chakri, Bahatar, Taxila, and AWT will be blocked.

Sources indicate that metro bus services in the twin cities will be halted, and Murree Road may be obstructed with containers.

Amid these developments, the PTI has formulated a strategy for the protest, with plans for the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, to lead the demonstration.

PTI leaders are expected to arrive in convoys, with instructions for party workers to reach Liaquat Bagh by 2 PM.

To bolster security, six companies of Rangers will also be deployed in Rawalpindi and Attock, following concerns about potential unrest from armed groups.
