A video of a dance performance at a recent doctors’ conference in Chennai has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread criticism and condemnation.
The footage, which shows a female dancer performing alongside several attendees, some of whom appear to grab her hand, has been described by many users as inappropriate and indecent.
The video, which surfaced on September 24, is from the annual conference of the Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of India (ACRSI), held in Chennai from September 19 to 21. The video clearly shows a banner reading “ACRSICON 2024,” identifying it as the ACRSI conference.
One user, Dr. Vijay Chakravarthy, shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), commenting, “It’s ridiculous to see such vulgar dance performances at a doctors’ conference, where open alcohol is served. All this money is indirectly collected from the people.”
Another user questioned the appropriateness of the event, stating, “The annual conference of the Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of India was held in Chennai from September 19th to 21st. I want to ask the Indian Medical Association, is this some kind of training in human anatomy? Elderly doctors groping a woman in public – what part of medical practice is this?”
The video shows the female dancer interacting with several conference attendees, some of whom appear to touch her inappropriately. The ACRSI has yet to issue a statement responding to the controversy.
