Independent Senator Faisal Vawda has claimed that former Inter-Services Intelligence director general Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed would blame former prime minister Imran Khan for all the wrongdoings, increasing the latter’s chances for a military trial.
“There are high chances of a military trial for Imran Khan,” he said while appearing on Rubaroo, which aired on Aaj News on Thursday.
Vawda, who got the boot in 2022 from the PTI, has been making political prophecies in the recent past. He was elected as an independent senator.
He was asked about the possibility of Khan’s military trial as Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had hinted at this while speaking about the former spymaster’s role in Khan’s tenure.
Hameed is in military custody and the process of field general court martial has been initiated against him concerning the Top City housing scheme scandal last month.
The senator claimed that the former ISI DG’s trial would open more cases, including journalist Arshad Sharif’s murder, on May 9, and firing on Khan during a rally.
He claimed that action would be taken against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandpur after his alleged conversation with the former ISI DG surfaced.
Vawda reiterated that Khan was in jail because of some of his mistakes, but mostly due to the party leaders’ suggestions. He claimed that some of the PTI leaders do not want the former prime minister freed.
He agreed with Khan’s sister Aleema that some party leaders were not doing enough to get the former prime minister out.
The senator criticised Gandapur for not addressing the issue of arrests and added that Khan “often gives inconsistent statements.”
Vawda claimed that there would be no PTI rally in Lahore on September 21 and added that the party was unable to hold such an event.
