Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities suspended teachers from three different government primary schools in Peshawar and launched investigations after it was discovered that they were making students sit on the floor despite the availability of funds for basic amenities.
The action was taken by the District Education Officer (DEO) Peshawar, who was alerted to the situation after schools reopened following the summer break. The DEO expressed his dismay over the lack of basic facilities for students, particularly in light of the allocated funds.
Despite the presence of funds, students were being made to sit on the floor, said the DEO.
The officer also question why mats or carpets were not provided for the students when the school’s fund has Rs. 50,000.
The suspended teachers are from Government Primary Schools No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5.
The DEO has launched a formal inquiry into the matter, stating that the academic year has begun, yet students are still deprived of basic amenities.
