At least two people were killed and eight injured after two groups clashed in Karachi’s Lasbela on Sunday, police said.
“The clash occurred between two groups. The police are currently working to restore order in the area,” DIG West Irfan Baloch told reporters.
The SSP Central reached the site of the incident, with a heavy police contingent to control the situation. Additional police reinforcements have been called in to bring the situation under control.
Enraged individuals had set fire to multiple vehicles in the Golimar area.
Baloch added that an inquiry was under way to determine the details of the casualties and injuries. “Consultations will be held to decide whether the case should be registered by the government or a civilian,” he added.
Karachi Police chief Javed Alam Odho stated that the tense situation has been brought under control. “The SSP Central is present at the site, and action will be taken against the individuals involved in the firing. Heavy contingents of Rangers are also reaching the area.”
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has telephoned the Sindh IGP and the additional IG and sought a report on the Golimar incident. Lanjar has directed police to take “immediate measures” to restore law and order and has ordered the arrest of those involved in the arson and firing.
“No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands and disrupt the peace,” he said.
