The FIA Cyber Crime Wing has arrested former bureaucrat and anchor person Oria Maqbool Jan.
According to sources, the FIA Cyber Crime Wing arrested Oria Maqbool Jan from his residence in Defence Housing Society (DHA) Phase 6.
The FIA has also registered a case against Oria Maqbool Jan. The former bureaucrat is accused of spreading religious hatred and inciting hatred against institutions. The case has been registered under the Cyber Terrorism Act.
Oria Maqbool Jan’s lawyer, Azhar Siddique Advocate, has confirmed that Oria Maqbool Jan is being held at the Gulberg Cyber Crime office. Oria Maqbool Jan was taken into custody for his social media posts, as he was discussing the Mubarak Sani case.
Azhar Siddique Advocate further said that they have not been provided the details of the FIR. Oria Maqbool Jan will be presented before a Judicial Magistrate today.
Earlier, on January 28, 2024, the FIA had issued notices summoning 47 journalists and YouTubers, including Oria Maqbool Jan, for allegedly spreading misinformation and negative propaganda against the Chief Justice of Pakistan and state institutions.
It may be recalled that the Ministry of Interior had formed a JIT to curb the social media campaign against judges, under Section 30 (regarding powers of investigation) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.

The 6-member committee, headed by the Additional Director General of the FIA, includes representatives from Inter-Services Intelligence, Intelligence Bureau, Deputy Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, and one co-opted member.
It is worth noting that Oria Maqbool Jan was also arrested by the Lahore Police during a raid at his residence on May 13, 2023.
