The Sindh government has declared a public holiday on August 20 in observance of the annual Urs of Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. The notification for the holiday has been issued, confirming that Tuesday will be a day off.
Official events during the Urs celebrations will include the Shah Latif Literary Conference, traditional Sindhi boat racing (Malakhro), a Sufi music gathering, agricultural and industrial exhibitions, and the establishment of a cultural village to promote cultural items.
The ceremony for the Sindh’s most prestigious award, the Shah Latif Award, will take place.
It merits here to mention that the three-day annual Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai is held every year from the Safar 14 at his final resting place in Bhit Shah.
