Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem returned to his homeland of Pakistan to a hero’s welcome and numerous tributes. He has now revealed his reaction upon hearing the news of receiving a buffalo as a gift from father-in-law.
In a recent interview that went viral over the internet, Arshad Nadeem was seen jokingly commenting on the gift during an interview with his wife and a Pakistani journalist.
When asked about the buffalo, Nadeem humorously remarked, “She (his wife) told me, I said buffalo? He should have given me 5-6 acres of land, but buffalo is also fine. By God’s grace he is so rich and he gave a buffalo.” His light-hearted comment left the journalist laughing.
Nawaz, who has four sons and three daughters, including Nadeem’s wife Ayesha, expressed immense pride in the javelin thrower’s success.
“Whenever he comes to our house, he never complains about anything and eats whatever is there,” she said, highlighting Nadeem’s humility and respect for his roots.
Nadeem, had reflected on the outpouring of support from his family and community that fueled his historic achievement.
Pakistan’s federal and provincial governments have showered Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem with a slew of rewards. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a Rs150 million cash prize from the federal government, while Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif presented Nadeem with a Rs100 million check and the keys to a Honda Civic at his hometown of Mian Channu.
The Sindh government also announced a Rs50 million award, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur gifted Nadeem Rs5 million from his personal funds. Additionally, a commercial bank, UBL, recognized his achievements with a Rs5 million reward, and Toyota Pakistan presented the star athlete with a new Corolla Cross Hybrid Electric vehicle.
Nadeem’s airplane was honored with a traditional water cannon salute as it touched down at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, signaling the start of a hero’s homecoming.
The homecoming celebrations underscored Nadeem’s status as a trailblazer for Pakistani sports.
