Four brave soldiers of the Pakistan Army were martyred during an intense exchange of fire with terrorists in the South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media affairs wing, the firefight took place on the night of August 12-13, 2024.
The security forces effectively engaged the “Khwarij” (a term used for extremists), resulting in the elimination of six terrorists.
The four Pakistan Army soldiers who embraced martyrdom during the gun battle with terrorists in South Waziristan were identified as Havildar Nisar Hussain, 34, a resident of Kurram district; Naik Rashid Gul, 34, also a resident of Kurram district; Naik Irfan Ullah Khan, 30, from Lakki Marwat district; and Sepoy Usman Rafaqat, 21, hailing from Haripur district.
These brave soldiers fought gallantly before making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, further strengthening the nation’s resolve to eliminate the menace of terrorism.
“Such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR statement said, adding that a sanitization operation is underway in the area to eliminate any other terrorists.
The incident comes amid an increase in terrorist activities in the provinces bordering Afghanistan, particularly after the Taliban’s rise to power in 2021.
The federal government has approved a reinvigorated national counterterrorism campaign, Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, to root out the menace of terrorism.
