PM Shehbaz approves increase in Privatisation Commission Board members from eight to 11

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved an increase in the number of the Privatisation Commission Board members from eight to 11.

“Only women should be appointed to the new positions,” the premier said while presiding over the federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The cabinet agreed to focus on local production of urea fertiliser instead of imports and agreed to provide an uninterrupted gas supply to urea manufacturing factories.

In his address on International Women’s Day, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of women’s representation on privatisation boards. This move is seen as an effort to promote gender diversity in key economic decision-making bodies.

The cabinet also discussed ways to enhance domestic urea production and ensure consistent gas supply to the fertilizer industry. This is aimed at reducing Pakistan’s reliance on urea imports and strengthening food security.
