Indian Olympian Neeraj Chopra’s Saroj Devi is satisfied with his son’s hard work at the Olympics and praised Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem who won historic gold medal at the mega event.
“I am happy with the silver, the guy who got gold [Arshad Nadeem] is also my child, everyone goes there after doing a lot of hard work,” she said when a reporter asked her about the Paris Games.
Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem clinched the gold medal in the javelin throw event at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on Thursday.
Nadeem’s record-breaking throw of 92.97 metres not only secured Pakistan’s first Olympic gold in 40 years but also shattered the previous Olympic record of 90.57 metres set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
He got emotional after throwing his last throw, which was also above 90 metres. His last attempt secured him the coveted medal despite his initial throw of 92.97 metres.
“No issues,” Devi said when asked whether she was disappointed with her son’s multiple fouls.
She added that the family was happy with the son’s performance and silver was like gold for the family.
