Bangladesh’s former prime minister and opposition leader Khaleda Zia has been released from years of house arrest, her party has said.

“She is now freed,” a Bangladesh National Party (BNP) party spokesman, AKM Wahiduzzaman, told the news agency, a day after orders to release her were given following the military taking control.
