A Karachi resident attempted to set himself on fire outside the Governor’s House on Sunday in a desperate act of protest against the worsening state of street crime in the city.
According to the individual, he was driven to such an extreme measure after his brothers recently fell victim to mobile phone snatching incidents in the city. The resident claimed that when he went to file a complaint, his request was not entertained by the authorities.
“The government is not providing any assistance, so I am resorting to setting myself on fire,” the distraught individual stated.
While expressing his anguish over the dire conditions in Karachi, the resident said he was compelled to take this drastic step out of sheer frustration with the city’s deteriorating law and order situation.
The attempted self-immolation outside the Governor’s House serves as a stark reminder of the growing public disillusionment with the provincial government’s inability to curb the rampant street crime plaguing Karachi.
