The Organised Crime Unit of police has claimed to have arrested four suspects, including a woman, for torturing and the kidnapping of dramatist Khalilur Rehman Qamar in Lahore.
They were identified through CCTV footage, sources told Aaj News on Sunday. Police have also recovered the vehicle used in the abduction.
Qamar, known for writing famous dramas in Pakistan, was kidnapped by over a dozen people in the city, according to the first information report registered at the Sunder Police Station.
He was kidnapped in the wee hours of July 16 from Lahore’s Bahria Town. A group of seven men barged into a house where he was “invited as a guest by a woman”. He added that the armed men tortured him. The woman had called the writer to meet her to produce a drama.
The FIR invoked sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) and 395 (punishment for dacoity) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Qamar claimed that he was robbed at gunpoint. The kidnappers took away his mobile phone worth around Rs150,000, worth Rs100,000 wrist watch and more than Rs271,000 of cash.
He also accused his kidnappers of transferring his mobile data to their phones and getting his password at gunpoint.
“Kidnappers demanded Rs10 ransom money,” he said and added that he was taken to an unknown location by another group of five people after he was brought down from the flat.

Qamar added that he was subjected to mental and physical torture when transferred to another vehicle by the abductors. According to the writer, he survived when the kidnapper tried to shoot at his leg.
“They started beating me when they heard my friend saying that he did not have such an amount. My eyes were blindfolded. Kidnapper shoved me and ran away after dropping me at an unknown location,” he said.
Qamar demanded people involved in his kidnapping should be arrested and brought to justice.
