The suspect involved in a robbery at Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar while dressed in a law enforcement agency’s uniform has been revealed to be a government official himself.
Footage of the robbery that went viral on social media showed the suspect robbed people at gunpoint at a food centre. The outlet’s owner, Adil, had filed a case at the Gulistan-e-Jauhar Police Station.
The suspect, Zahid, was on leave at the time and misused his official uniform to carry out the illegal act, sources said. The official, who was a close acquaintance of the civilian, had utilised the uniform for his personal gain.
The security agency conducted a raid at the suspect’s residence and recovered Rs1.8 million in cash, along with other items. The accused official has been handed over to the police for further legal proceedings.
