India Champions won the World Championship of Legends title on Sunday after defeating Pakistan Champions in the final match at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday.
The Men in Blue won by five wickets, thanks to Ambati Rayudu’s 50 and cameos by Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Yusuf Pathan. Pakistan had set a 157-run target for India.
The Green Shirts could have changed the scenario if all-rounder Shoaib Malik had grabbed Yusuf’s catch.
Anureet Singh was the leading wicket-taker for his side. Shoaib Malik who kept the wickets safe from one end during the innings was the leading run-scorer. He made 41 from 36 deliveries.
They are being led by Younus Khan, a former T20 World Cup-winning captain, while India Champions are being led by Yuvraj Singh.
The World Championship of Legends is a Twenty20 cricket tournament, featuring retired international cricketers from various nations. It was approved by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Fans back home are hoping that the Khan-led side would take revenge for the national cricket team’s defeat against the archrivals in the T20 World Cup.
This is the first edition of the tournament.
