Mountaineer Samina Baig, who had to abandon her K2 expedition on Saturday due to breathing problems, reached Shigar’s Askole area on Sunday after undertaking a lengthy journey on horseback while in critical medical condition.
“Soon Samina Baig will be brought to Shigar from where she will be shifted to Skardu,” Shigar Deputy Commissioner Wali Ullah Falaahi told Aaj News.
Samina, the first Pakistani woman to scale the world’s highest peak, had reached the base camp on Saturday to lead a six-member team comprising Italian and Pakistan climbers as part of platinum jubilee celebrations of the first ascent of K2. But she suddenly fell ill, forcing her to abandon the expedition and return.
She comes from the village of Shimshal in Hunza valley and holds the unique record of being the first Pakistani among men and women to climb seven summits on seven continents.
