Singer-cum-actor Ali Zafar has urged Pakistan white-ball skipper Babar Azam to follow in the footsteps of cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan to win the blockbuster contest against India on Sunday (today).
“Babar if you are listening, a captain is a leader because he leads from the front. It is their quality that they are fearless and have no self-doubt,” he said in a video on Facebook.
Zafar uploaded the video a day before the Pakistan and India match in the T20 World Cup. The two sides will face each other in New York.
He mentioned an old cricket match between Pakistan and Australia. The singer said that Khan, a former skipper, himself decided to bowl the last over of the game when the opponent team needed four in an over.
Khan strategised every delivery and set fielding according to that, he said and eventually, Pakistan won the match. “Which meant he had those nerves, strategy and a belief that I will lead my team to victory,” he said and stressed the need for self-belief and conviction.
“We expect from you Babar that you enter the field with the same confidence and belief. Victory or defeat is part of the game, but play fearlessly,” he said and described the white-ball skipper as an “amazing player.”
After sending the best wishes, the singer urged the players to follow international standards in the fitness department.
He highlighted that mental fitness was also important which manifests in physical actions. According to Zafar, trainings should be conducted for the team.
The Rockstar singer said that language was also important and the players should be proud of their language and culture. A translate should be called if they want to speak in their mother tongue, he said.
“We need to end this gora complex,” he said.
